The Starter Kit
My top pick for beginners. Aluminum is smooth and having two sizes in one is a total life-saver (and wallet-saver!)
Stainless Steel Crochet Hooks
Definition of comfort. Perfect for amigurumi. If you're a newbie, avoid dark colors it’s a nightmare to see your stitches.
Milk Cotton Yarn
Super cheap and doesn't fray easily. Tip: Keep a lighter nearby to seal the ends!
Polyester Macrame Yarn
Non-negotiable. These will save you from losing your mind while counting rounds.
Stitch Markers
You can use regular ones from home, but a sharp pair of yarn-specific scissors makes everything cleaner.
Yarn Scissors
Truth be told, you only need one pair of scissors. But if you're a fan of minimalism, you might want to consider adding this one to your collection.

While I usually prefer videos, I found this digital guide (PDF) to be an amazing reference.

Crochet Hooks Set with Case
The "Dictionary" of Basic Stitches
There’s no 'right' way, only your way! Whether you hold your hook like a pencil or a knife, finding a comfortable grip is the first step to avoiding hand fatigue.
How to Hold the Yarn and Hook
I cried the first time I tried this! Don't give up, once it clicks, it’s like magic.
Slip Knot
The starting line of almost every project. Mastering the foundation chain is key to making sure your work doesn't curl or feel too tight at the bottom. Take your time with this one!
Chain Stitch & Foundation Chain
The bread and butter of crocheting! It’s the first real stitch you’ll learn. It creates a tight, sturdy fabric that’s perfect for making cute amigurumi or simple pouches.
Single Crochet
One of my favorite stitches! It’s the perfect middle ground—faster than a single crochet but more solid than a double crochet. It gives a lovely texture to blankets and beanies.
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
The 'speed runner' stitch. Because it’s twice as tall as a single crochet, your projects will grow much faster! It’s great for scarves and light, airy garments.
Double Crochet (DC)
Essential for circular projects. It’s tricky at first, but keep practicing!
Magic Ring/Magic Circle
This is where the magic happens! Learning how to switch colors seamlessly will take your projects from 'beginner' to 'pro' level. It’s easier than it looks, I promise!
Change Color
Acts as a spacer, often used at the start/end of rounds.
Slip Stitch
Similar to a slip stitch but with an extra chain to secure it. Prevents your work from unraveling when you're done.
Fasten Off
Mastering how to close the hole perfectly ensures your plushies look clean and seamless without any stuffing poking out. It’s the most satisfying part of the process!
