The whole obsession kicked off when a friend sprayed something in her guest room and I literally asked if she'd been on vacation. Tracked down the exact sprays that give off that breezy island bar energy without smelling fake.

Around 7pm I light one of these on the patio or coffee table and suddenly my cramped rental feels like a resort lobby. Took a lot of waxy disappointments to land on ones that actually throw scent across a room.

My cat knocked over two candles in one week so I switched to wax melts and honestly the scent lasts even longer. No fire hazard, no stress, just tropical air all day.

Some days I'm too lazy to light anything or spray anything. These just sit there doing the work while I binge-watch TV, and honestly those are the days my house smells the most consistent.

Realized my couch was holding onto every cooking smell from the past year. Started spritzing fabric sprays on cushions, pillows, and curtains — now sitting down actually smells pleasant instead of suspicious.

Put these in spots where you can't plug anything in or don't want an open flame — like that weird shelf above the stairs or the guest bathroom nobody uses until Thanksgiving.

Started picking cleaning supplies by smell instead of just grabbing whatever was cheapest. Now mopping the floor actually makes the house smell better for hours instead of like a hospital corridor.

Figured if my house smelled like paradise, my car shouldn't smell like old french fries and gym bag. Extended the tropical theme to my Honda and now my commute feels like a drive along the coast.

Started matching my personal scent to my home scent and honestly people think I just permanently smell amazing. Really I just committed to a coconut-lime theme across every area of my life.

Nothing ruins a tropical house scent faster than pulling musty towels out of the dryer. Fixed that problem by switching up my laundry routine and now everything that comes out of the machine smells like a resort towel.

Once the scent was handled I added a few visual and sensory things that sealed the whole vacation-at-home feeling. Sounds silly but walking into my living room now genuinely lowers my heart rate.
