Alcohol markers changed everything for me. Water-based ones kept reactivating my base layers and turning everything muddy. These let me build up color without destroying what was underneath.

Not every brush pen survives being layered over. Some fray after two passes. These are the ones whose tips stayed intact even when I went back over the same stroke multiple times for gradient effects.

Markers alone only got me halfway. Adding the right blending tools was the difference between a decent gradient and one that made people ask if I used a printer.

Spent my first year lettering on copy paper and wondering why everything looked terrible. The paper matters as much as the markers. Wrong surface and your blend turns into a fuzzy, bleeding disaster.

Mixing colored pencils with markers was an accident that changed how I work. Pencils underneath give markers something to interact with, and pencils on top add detail and texture you can't get from markers alone.
