I used to finish a walk and realize I'd gone the exact same way as yesterday without even thinking. These finally gave me a visual of where I'd been so I could deliberately pick new streets.

Once I started walking new routes, my distances jumped from 2 miles to 5. My old sneakers punished me for that. These didn't.

Exploring unfamiliar streets is way more fun with a podcast or playlist going. But I needed earbuds that let me hear traffic too, because wandering into new intersections while deaf is a bad plan.

Short familiar loops never required water. But when I started walking 4-5 miles into unknown territory, I learned the hard way that dehydration headaches are real.

New routes meant new roads with no sidewalks, poorly lit stretches, and intersections I wasn't used to. Being visible became a priority real fast after one close call with a turning car.

Rain used to cancel my walks. Then I realized I was just using that as an excuse to repeat the same sunny-day route. Proper gear meant no more excuses.
