British Christmas gifts I would actually give

Purple Star emoji 8 items
Everything here is something I'd give, or be glad to get. That's the whole filter, and it rules out more than you'd think. The prices are all over the place on purpose. Buying for your mum and buying for whoever you drew at work aren't the same job. ...

A hamper is what you send when you cannot be there, which is most of the point of them. They post to about fifty countries too, so it covers the relative who moved abroad and has not stopped going on about proper mince pies.

A good one for someone whose house is already full. The biscuits go fast and then the tin holds pens or buttons for the next ten years, which is the real present. Proper shortbread as well, four ingredients and nothing else.

Made for English Heritage by Lyme Bay Winery, and it won a Great Taste award back in 2019. Sweet honey with a chilli kick, and they suggest it with strong cheese rather than on its own. Eleven per cent, so more wine than novelty.

Three small jars instead of one big one, which is the right way round for something eaten by the spoonful. Elderflower and rose is the one to open first. Proper curd too, made with butter and free range eggs.

A real Yorkshire single malt rather than a gift shop bottle with a heritage label stuck on it. Non chill filtered, natural colour, 46.5%, and the barley is grown on the same coast it is distilled on.

Stonehenge jewellery sounds like it ought to be dreadful and this is not. The trilithon is there if you look for it and if you do not it is just a moon and some clouds. It comes in its own box, which saves a job.

Mayfair is Pendennis Castle and instead of houses you build market stalls, which somehow improves it. Still Monopoly though, so still four hours and someone leaving the room.

285 bits of stainless steel and three to five hours' work, which is the actual present. The tools are in the box. It's 40cm across when it's done though, so someone's going to need a shelf.
